drought mitigation programme - 2006-2009
The project has responded to local food security needs in the drought ridden Androy region, whilst also addressing natural resource management challenges. It has provided more than 500 families with drought resistant sorghum seed to grow as a main crop, and to use as fodder and fuel. The project also launched a commercial plantation with a local association, provided trees to assist land tenure, trained women in fuel efficient stove building and raised awareness about HIV.
